Award Information
The National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys currently has three awards available, for which any NAELA member in good standing who meets the award's criteria can be nominated. Following is a description of the awards.
The John Regan Writing Award
In memory of John Regan, a long-time NAELA member and Fellow, this award is presented to the author of the best article published in the NAELA Journal during the year.

Elder Leadership Award
NAELA’s Elder Leadership Award is designed to encourage and promote activism and involvement for the betterment of the lives of the elderly. NAELA annually recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the elderly on a national level in the form of sustained exemplary service, or as a result of an outstanding single achievement or public service. The 2009 Elder Leadership Award was presented posthumously to Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.
Special Needs Leadership Award
NAELA’s Special Needs Leadership Award is designed to encourage and promote activism and involvement for the betterment of the lives of those with special needs. Starting in 2010, NAELA annually recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to those with special needs on a national level in the form of sustained exemplary service, or as a result of an outstanding single achievement or public service. The 2010 Special Needs Leadership Award was presented to Dick Traum, founder of Achilles International.
The Theresa Award
The Theresa Award is an annual community service award presented by the Theresa Alessandra Russo Foundation to a NAELA member in recognition of his/her advocacy and support of individuals with disabilities.

The Powley Elder Law Award
This award is presented to a NAELA member who has demonstrated a commitment to promote, in the minds of the general public, a greater understanding of the rights and needs of the elderly and how elder law attorneys advocate for those rights.
